The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ was codenamed Project Dream and was unveiled on March 29th, 2017. The S8 and S8+ featured upgraded hardware and a number of major design changes over the S7. This included larger screens with a taller aspect ratio, curved sides, iris and face recognition, a new virtual assistant called Bixby, a dedicated button to launch Bixby and Samsung Dex which allowed the phones to be used with a desktop interface with a keyboard and mouse. There was also an S8 Active which featured a tough build with protection against shock, shatter, dust and water. The Galaxy S8 and S8+ was a popular phone with over 1 million units reserved in South Korea ahead of launch. Unlike other Galaxy S models, the S8 does not feature physical navigation keys, and only uses on-screen keys. However, the home button can still be activated if it is hidden or the screen is off.
